BayWa r.e. announces sale of seven Dutch solar parks

to overview

BayWa r.e. has announced the sale of seven solar parks in the Netherlands, with more than 80MWp, which have all been built last year.

The projects, which include the ground mounted installation at Groningen Airport Eelde (21.8MWp) and the two floating solar installations Tynaarlo and Sekdoorn (together 23MWp), have been sold to the Encavis Asset Management AG (Encavis AM). The specialised Asset Manager is part of the listed Encavis AG, one of the leading Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in Europe. The sales are the first from BayWa r.e.’s Dutch solar assets and follow previous wind and solar farm sales with Encavis AM.

Karsten Mieth, Speaker of the Management Board of Encavis AM adds: “The acquisition of these seven solar plants in the Netherlands - especially in times of Covid-19 - is particularly satisfying because it shows that BayWa r.e. and Encavis AM are strong and reliable partners.”

BayWa r.e. entered the Dutch solar market in March 2018 through a partnership with the leading national renewable project developer GroenLeven.

Explained Matthias Taft, BayWa AG Board Member: “The successful sale of these solar parks demonstrates that despite the Covid-19 crisis, the renewable energy industry continues to blossom and we at BayWa r.e. are very happy to be able to maintain business as usual. We experience an ongoing strong appetite for investment in renewable energy assets.”

He added: “This sale is further evidence that our decision to enter the Dutch market was absolutely the right thing to do. Working with GroenLeven, we have a strong development pipeline and have grown the team on the ground fivefold to manage our presence and activities here in the Netherlands. We expect this initial success to be matched as we head into the second half of 2020.”

Further sales of already built Dutch solar parks are planned for the next months.

BayWa r.e. in partnership with Dutch GroenLeven is now one of the largest developers of floating PV in Europe, with plans to build a further 100MWp across the continent in 2020. With the Dutch Bomhofsplas project the company recently finished the construction of the largest floating solar plant outside China.
