Affordable and sustainable energy for everyone
Local authorities are now facing a major challenge: they must and want to become more sustainable in order to make the energy transition possible. Sustainable energy projects in the Netherlands and Belgium play an important role in this. They contribute to a green and pleasant living environment, and help attain an environmentally friendly and affordable energy system, for now and the future. With the participatory approach of BayWa r.e., local authorities are equal partners in the development of projects. We realise renewable energy facilities and ensure that they enrich every municipality.
Whether it is a wind park, a solar farm or a battery energy storage system, we aim for 50% local ownership of energy projects. In this way, we jointly create an even more sustainable municipality where residents have access to clean, locally generated and affordable electricity.
An attractive and sustainable residential environment in your municipality
As a developer of sustainable energy in the Netherlands and Belgium, we are convinced that energy facilities must fit into the landscape. That is why we (together with local authorities and landowners) also look at the possibilities to support the surrounding environment and strengthen biodiversity, for example by means of flower meadows. This means that the current local community and future generations can continue to enjoy what the area has to offer.
The municipality itself has no investment costs, but does benefit from the proceeds of the project. These proceeds can be used by the municipality for local initiatives. A great specific example of how municipalities can benefit from our sustainable energy projects is the realisation of the floating solar farm in the municipality of Zwolle. The green energy goes directly to households and businesses in Zwolle, and annual income flows back to local initiatives.
