Local communities and renewable energy
Experience how we involve the local area in sustainable project development.
At BayWa r.e., we are convinced that participation in the energy transition is crucial for a fair and sustainable transition to renewable energy. That is why we ensure that sustainable project development always takes place in cooperation with the local area – and that it is involved as early as possible in the process.
Together with the local community, we develop projects that make a valuable contribution to their future. In this way, we jointly realise a green energy supply for the benefit of people and nature.
Participation in the energy transition
In sustainable project development, we involve the local community as an equal partner. By doing this, we jointly create an energy supply that meets local needs and wishes. There are various ways in which we enable participation in the energy transition:
Financial participation
We aim for 50% local ownership through an existing or yet to be established energy cooperative. The members themselves determine how the profit of the project can be used for the benefit of the local area. For instance by combating energy poverty among residents by insulating homes, or by strengthening the surrounding nature.
Community involvement
The local community knows the surrounding environment best and that knowledge is crucial for sustainable project development with wind energy, solar energy and energy storage. We ensure that residents and business owners are given the opportunity to contribute ideas on how the project will ultimately be designed.
Local environmental fund
Once the project is up and running, an amount will be deposited into a local environmental fund for each megawatt hour produced. This fund can be used to finance local initiatives, such as supporting local sports clubs or installing charging stations.
Local industry
Our goal is to realise as much of the benefit of a project in the area as possible. That is why we also actively look for coupling opportunities to provide local companies with sustainable energy.
Through this, we help local industry become more sustainable, we contribute to cleaner air quality and we support local businesses. In the case of direct consumption, space can be created on the grid to reduce grid congestion.
Sustainable project development
Successful sustainable project development requires a well-thought-out approach.
We are accessible and transparent. After all, good collaboration starts with effective communication.
We acknowledge any concerns within the local community and ensure that benefits and responsibilities remain balanced.
We ensure that everyone is involved in the project and has the opportunity to contribute.
